Gillingham Deserves Better has been set up by local residents to question and challenge the decisions being taken by Dorset Council planning committee, which has been saying "yes" to nearly every large scale planning application put before them by developers, regardless of how this might impact upon the environment, the wildlife, the infrastructure of the town and the quality of life for the people who live in Gillingham, which was once a peaceful and characterful village surrounded by greenfields and open spaces.

Without such pressure, Dorset Council are likely to feel they have to continue approving these applications and Gillingham will see urban sprawl spreading out into the countryside and threatening to join us with neighbouring towns and hamlets.
